Urban Nutcracker Auditions – Dancers Ages 18+
City Ballet of Boston is looking for experienced ballet, tap, and hip hop dancers with strong technique for the 2023 production of Anthony Williams’ Urban Nutcracker. Auditions for dancers ages 18+ will be held Sunday, September 17 from 10:30am-1:00pm at Tony Williams Dance Center. Interested dancers should email their CV/resume and dance photos to urbannutcracker@cityballetofboston.org to reserve their audition spot.
Performances will be December 16-23, 2023 at the historic Boch Center Shubert Theatre. Rehearsals for the Urban Nutcracker will begin in late September. Most adult rehearsals will take place on Saturdays and Sundays. For those adults with weekday morning rehearsal availability, additional roles may be available.

This audition is for ballet, tap, and hip hop roles! Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your audition time to check-in. The audition will consist of a short warm-up followed by choreography & technique. Dancers should bring appropriate footwear if auditioning for tap and hip hop roles. As always, our auditions are open to the ENTIRE CITY OF BOSTON and surrounding areas. Our mission is diversity through dance, and our goal is to cast our show with the most talented, and widely diverse dancers our community has to offer.
*All dancers must have previous dance training.
*Great opportunities for students who are proficient en pointe.
*Not all dancers will be cast.
Audition Attire: Leotard and flesh-tone tights, or slim t-shirt with black tights. Ballet slippers, with tap shoes & hip hop sneakers if needed, and pointe shoes for those with training en pointe. Hair should be slicked back, long hair secured in a bun, headband if needed for bangs.
Rehearsal information: Youth rehearsals begin September 23, 2023. Dancers should expect to have rehearsals every Saturday and Sunday from the weekend after auditions until the show dates. Anthony Williams’ Urban Nutcracker is a professional production and requires a serious commitment on the part of all of our young dancers and their families to attend all rehearsals. Rehearsals run September-December – mostly on weekends – in Jamaica Plain, MA.
Performances will be December 16-23, 2023 at the historic Boch Center Shubert Theatre. No one is charged a participation fee, but there may be a small monetary investment for your child’s tights and shoes. Your child may be cast in a scene that requires specific costuming such as black sneakers, or nude jazz shoes, or a nude leotard to wear under costumes, etc. All children will need correct tights and slippers.
